Connect Bluesky

Bluesky is the only channel here that doesn’t use a permission screen. You give Publiz an app password instead, which is a separate, revocable password you generate yourself. It is also the channel with the tightest limit, 300 characters, and the composer turns anything longer into a numbered thread as you type.

  1. On Bluesky, go to Settings then App passwords (bsky.app/settings/app-passwords) and make a new one. Copy it, it looks like xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx.

  2. In Publiz, open Settings then Connected Accounts and press Connect Account.

  3. Pick Bluesky. Instead of sending you to Bluesky, Publiz asks for two things right there: your handle (alice.bsky.social) and the app password you just made.

  4. Save, and the account appears with its display name and avatar.

  • 300 characters per post. Go over it in the composer and your text is split into a thread automatically, numbered (1/3), (2/3) and so on. Drop back under 300 and it collapses into a single post again. You can also add, remove and reorder the segments by hand.
  • Hashtags go on the last post in a thread, not on every one.
  • Up to 4 images per post, and each one has to be under about 1 MB. This is Bluesky’s limit, not ours, and it is small. A photo straight off a phone will usually be over it.
  • Video up to about 100 MB. If a post has both a video and images, the video wins.
  • Posts can be removed from Publiz, which deletes them on Bluesky too.
  • Who can interactEverybody, Mentioned only, Followers only, People you follow, or Nobody. In a thread this applies to the first post, which is what governs the whole thread.
  • Allow quote posts — on by default.
  • Languages — defaults to English. It tells Bluesky’s feeds who to show the post to, so it is worth setting if you post in Indonesian.

Read, reply, and delete. Bluesky has no way to hide a comment, so deleting is the only way to take one down. Replies to your posts land in comments alongside everything else.

A post went out with fewer images than you attached. The 1 MB limit above. Resize and repost.

Your long post became a thread and you didn’t want one. That’s the 300-character limit doing its job. Edit it down under 300 and the thread collapses back to a single post before you publish.

The interaction settings didn’t stick. If Bluesky refuses the permission record, the post still goes up but with default permissions rather than failing outright. Check the post on Bluesky and set it there if it matters.

You’re asked for the app password again. Publiz normally refreshes its Bluesky session quietly in the background, and pressing Reconnect tries that first. Being asked for the password means the session is too old to renew, or the app password was revoked on Bluesky. Generate a new one.
